People can give their opinions on what would make Lake Berryessa a visitor magnet, be it an amphitheater with big name entertainers, horseback riding, bird watching or a wildlife safari park.

Napa County through the Ragatz Associates consulting firm is doing an online survey. It will use results to help decide if it wants to oversee the Lake Berryessa resort renovation effort and, if so, what type of resorts might succeed.

“Is boating the primary use? Is a conference facility the primary use? What are people desiring that they are not getting elsewhere in California and what market exists in California?” Deputy County Executive Officer Molly Rattigan said.

If the county Board of Supervisors likes the survey results, it could move ahead trying to jumpstart the long-stalled renovation effort for five of seven Lake Berryessa resorts.

The survey asks if respondents have been to Lake Berryessa before or, for that matter, if they’ve ever heard of Lake Berryessa. It wants to know what prior visitors thought of the boating facilities, safety, fishing, climate and the quality of the lake’s water.

Respondents who have avoided the lake can rate possible reasons, be it the difficulty of getting there, talk that some visitors are too rowdy or an impression the resorts weren’t high-quality enough.
