Beginning Bird Walk - Rockville Hills Regional Park
Woodpeckers, nuthatches and creepers! How do birders tell all the different but commonly seen, oak woodland species apart? Hear tips for finding and identifying woodpeckers in our region, including how to use clues such as calls, silhouette, and behavior. We will also review some helpful phone apps, ebird, and field guides. Nuttall’s, Hairy, and Acorn Woodpeckers make regular appearances at this park.
Walks and workshops are aimed at Beginning Birders and are held twice per month on Saturdays. All workshops begin at 9 a.m., followed by a bird walk from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Walks are appropriate for all ages (children must be accompanied by an adult). This walk requires hiking up hills, and possibly uneven and muddy paths. Please wear sturdy walking shoes, bring binoculars if you have them, and water.
Directions: Rockville Hills Regional Park is located near Fairfield. From 80 Eastbound, take exit 41 for Suisun Valley Rd/Pittman Rd, continue on Suisun Valley Rd. for 1.7 Miles. Make a left on Rockville Rd., drive .8 Miles. The parking lot will be on the left.
***There is a $3 entrance fee for this park, which can be paid by card at the parking lot kiosk.
