Napa-Solano Audubon Field Trip - Soscol Water Recycling Facility

Sat, Sep 22nd 2018, 10:00am - 12:00pm
1515 Soscol Ferry Rd, Napa, CA 94558.

Join the Napa-Solano Audubon as they explore the Soscol Water Recycling Facility as part of Napa Sanitation District's Open House. This is a great opportunity to gain access and see what they do to provide water for the area.

The facility is a wastewater treatment plant that treats the sewage from nearby Napa. Among the structures and catch basins, there are treatment ponds which are an attractant for waterfowl, shorebirds and other groups of birds. Migrants are moving around in the trees. Birds likely to be seen are Northern Shoveler, Northern Pintail, Mallard, Ruddy Duck, American Wigeon, Common Yellowthroat, Western Gull, Cooper's Hawk, Red-Shouldered Hawk and a plethora of shorebirds. Red-Necked Phalarope, Glaucous-Winged Gull, Pied-Billed Grebe, Horned and Eared Grebe and Osprey are possible. A Sabine's gull had been recently spotted on the treatment ponds, which is a rarity for the county and has been sticking around.

The temperature will reach the high 70s, so please stay hydrated. There will be walking in mostly shaded habitat, so it should be a comfortable day weather-wise. Please wear comfortable, yet sturdy, hiking shoes. Mosquitoes are out so please bring bug spray. The facility can have a strong odor be prepared for this.

Please meet at the NSAS table no later that 10:10am
