Arundo: A Growing Problem in Our Creeks

CreekSpeak is Putah Creek Council's six-month series of community talks about the nature, culture, and history of our region.
Invasive plants are a huge problem throughout the natural world, including in Yolo and Solano Counties. One of the worst invaders is giant reed (Arundo donax), which is found in most of our local waterways. Come learn about its effects on riparian ecology and get an overview of the problem in the Putah-Cache Watershed. The speakers will also discuss solutions and riparian habitat restoration.
Our presenters this month are Heather Nichols, Executive Director and Tanya Meyer, Project Manager at the Yolo County Resource Conservation District (RCD). They have experience in agriculture, habitat restoration, and invasive plant control. Their insights will be valuable to anyone interested in invasive plants or local ecology.
CreekSpeak talks are free to Putah Creek Council members and open to the public. A $5 donation is requested from those who have not yet joined the Council.
