Fecal Pollution in S.F. Bay: Predictive Tools for Decision Makers

Fri, Jan 25th 2008, 10:00am - 2:25pm
The Cooperative Institute for Coastal and Estuarine Environmental Technology and the SF Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (SFNERR) would like to invite you to a workshop where we will demonstrate new tools being developed to predict and model the sources, fate, and transport of fecal pollutants in bay waters. The project, led by UC Davis researchers Dr. Stefan Wuertz and Dr. Fabián Bombardelli, combines microbial source tracking, pathogen analysis, and validated ultrafiltration technology with a 3-D modeling approach. San Pablo Bay will be used as a case study.

Who should attend:
This workshop is geared towards staff at water control boards, recreational and natural resource areas, water treatment facilities, and other organizations involved in water quality monitoring and regulation.

What to expect:
The research team will present the current project status, preliminary findings, and an overview of the modeling tool. Our goal is to foster a discussion about the applicability and usability of this project to your work. We would also like to gather suggestions and feedback about the modeling tool and recommendations for future sampling sites in order to improve the project's relevance and usefulness to your work. Registration is free and an organic lunch will be provided.
