Field Trip to Rush Ranch with Napa-Solano Audubon Society

The following field trip has a few spaces available. It is limited to 15, and you must RSVP to Wendy Cole, beehaven2@comcast.net

Date: Sunday, February 21, 2016

Leader: Ken Poerner, Land Steward, Solano Land Trust

Rush Ranch is a property of the Solano Land Trust.  It is an 2,040 open space in southern Solano County, bordered on one side by the Suisun Marsh, an extremely vital component of the San Francisco Bay/Delta Estuary. Within its boundaries is one of the best remaining examples of brackish tidal marsh habitat, exceptionally rich in vegetation and wildlife.  It is free to the public every day of the year.  Donations are accepted at the Iron Ranger within the parking lot.

Carpool: Meet on east side of Sweeney’s Sports in River Park Shopping Center on Imola Ave. Napa. We leave at 7:20 am.

If not carpooling, we will meet our leader, Ken, at 8:00 am at the McDonalds (coffee & bathrooms) at the corner of 12 and Grizzly Island/Sunset, Suisun.

Bring lunch and water.

We will look for Burrowing Owls, Great Horned Owl, Barn Owl and raptors. Then on to the marsh to find rails. Before leaving Rush Ranch we will look for ducks and tricolored blackbirds. We continue on to Grizzly Island for ducks, shorebirds, geese, possible bittern, and loggerhead shrike.
