3rd Annual Funding Workshop

Tue, Dec 5th 2006, 6:30pm - 9:00pm
The Sotoyome and Gold Ridge RCD will present the 3rd annual funding workshop.

The workshop is free, though RSVPS are required due to
limited space. The workshop begins promptly at 6:30pm and will go to 9:00pm.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn brief highlights of several different funding sources available to private landowners, community organizations, and public agencies. Funding has become an increasingly complex web of coordination and timely shifts based on both limited funds,
the evolution of documents and publications guiding restoration and watershed priorities, and the increased awareness of the potential to cost-share for projects that benefit agricultural, wildland, wildlife conservation, urban, and the interface of these domains.

Confirmed speakers will include Kara Heckert from the Sotoyome RCD (USDA Farm Bill Programs), Kate Symonds of US Fish and Wildlife (Partners in Conservation and other programs), Jill Butler of CDF (variety of forest health and wildland management programs), Robert Judd of the Community Foundation (Education and Environment competitive grants program), and members of the Department of Fish and Game and the State Water Board are tentatively scheduled to present updates on fisheries and water quality/multi-parameter program respectively. Still to be confirmed, there may be a brief presentation of challenges/successes of securing funds from a landowners perspective.

In addition, the Sotoyome RCD prepares an annual funding spreadsheet that will be provided to all participants, which highlights over 45 sources for funds, including state and federal funds, private-public partnerships, and private foundation grants. Due to the nature of the workshop, in depth discussion is not possible, but this popular workshop and handouts have provided a great foundation for identifying funds in the coming year, and culling out funds that may not fit a person or organizations need before investing extensive time to engage in the proposal process.
