NEWELL OPEN SPACE PRESERVE "OPEN DAY"

Sat, Oct 21st 2006, 7:00am - 3:00pm
This will be a combined "Work Party and Open Day", our last event of the season. We'll be rebuilding some culverts that clogged and overflowed during last year's heavy rains, collecting and hauling old fence material, and possibly removing some fallen trees and brush however anyone is free to visit the Preserve and hike on their own. The average attendance for each of our "Open Day" events this summer (once per month) was about 15 people per day. Thank you to Matt Plate, Anne Garner, Rick Thein and family, Mark Joseph, Nance Matson, Sande Sutter, Keith Caldwell, and Peri Dean for volunteering. We think more people will visit the Newell Preserve as the City's population increas es and we do a better job of advertising. Next year we are planning to continue volunteering for "Open Days" although we might adjust the focus towards specific events, for example guided hikes or special days for horses or bicyclists. Let us know if you would enjoy helping part of the day. Eventually we hope the City will put resources into opening the Preserve on a regular basis (perhaps every weekend in the summer).
