NEWELL OPEN SPACE PRESERVE "OPEN DAY"

Sat, Jul 8th 2006, 7:00am - 3:00pm
The Jack and Bernice Newell Open Space Preserve will be open to the public for hikers, mountain bikers (helmet required), and equestrians on Saturday, July 8, 2006, from 7:00 am – 3:00 pm. Please familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations, as well as the various possible hazards before entering the Preserve. We recommend sturdy shoes, sun protection, drinking water, something to snack on, and insect repellant around shoes and socks to discourage ticks. Volunteers from Friends of American Canyon Open Spaces will be at the entrance gate to provide information and a limited amount of bottled water. For questions or directions, please email us at: foacos@comcast.net , or leave a phone message with the City's Community Services office at (707) 648-7275. Our volunteers are attempting to host one public "Open Day" each month through the summer. We don't have a schedule yet (it depends on volunteer availability), and we are hoping to include a couple Sundays to accommodate those who can't participate on Saturdays. We also plan to host some work parties to remove brush and debris, and rebuild some culverts to prevent winter rains from eroding the roads.
