Conservation Burn Workshop and Training with Peter Hirst

The North Coast Chapter of Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) and the Sonoma Biochar Initiative will present a special workshop and training on the conservation burn technique at Shone Farm on Friday February 14th.

Even in California, the national leader in most environmental matters, open burning of woody debris is still a common practice in agricultural and forestry practice. Although this form of material disposal is still necessary, the emissions, including visible smoke and especially the return of carbon to the atmosphere as CO2, are not. By replacing conventional open burn methods with the conservation burn you can radically reduce emissions (visible smoke and invisible chemicals and particles), clean up the air in your community and conserve resources, especially carbon.
