Mayacamas Forum Special Meeting ~ Next Steps for Critical Linkages

Please RSVP to mayacamas@pepperwoodpreserve.org.

Critical Linkages and the Conservation Lands Networks form the backbone of a regional conservation strategy that spans multiple jurisdictional boundaries. Conserving connectivity at this scale will require agencies, organizations and individuals from across diverse sectors to work together. Members of the Critical Linkages Implementation Committee recommended that “Linkage Stewardship Committees” be considered for each of the 14 proposed Critical Linkages with some level of regional coordination to help tie them together. “Linkage Stewardship Committees” are envisioned as a broad-based partnership of natural resource, land use and transportation agencies, scientists, ranchers, farmers, land trusts and conservancies, and conservation organizations that would collaborate on linkage conservation and stewardship strategies. Strategies could include development of technical plans to overcome barriers to animal movement and efforts to build and maintain linkages among all the potential land protection and stewardship players.

Pepperwood’s Mayacamas Forum, a venue for local land and water managers to share emerging science and planning tools applicable to conservation of the Mayacamas range, was formed in part due to the recognition of the Mayacamas as a regionally important landscape connection.  The Mayacamas Forum already engages many of the players essential to linkage implementation. The Mayacamas are the main geographic feature in two of the priority linkages, the Coast Range-Blue Ridge and Blue Ridge-Marin Coast connections. The goal of this meeting is to explore opportunities for the Forum to provide leadership on local linkages implementation. Please join us for a special meeting of the Mayacamas Forum to discuss the Linkage Stewardship Committee concept, the appropriate geographic scope(s) and team(s) for linkage protection partnerships, benefits of participation, and next steps for Critical Linkages implementation. More details will follow prior to the meeting.

Lunch will be provided so please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.
