Southern Sonoma RCD and Friends of the Petaluma River are hosting a forum on the importance of the Petaluma Watershed, and you are invited!

 

The Petaluma Watershed Celebration is Thursday, April 18th at the David Yearsley River Heritage Center, located at Steamer Landing Park on the McNear Peninsula. The park entrance is at the end of Copeland Street, south of D Street.  See the map below.

 

Presenters will provide a natural history of the watershed, updates on important conservation work, partnerships, recovery efforts for threatened and endangered species,  and cultural stories about indigenous people and salmon.  Sonoma County Supervisor David Rabbitt will be on-hand to kick off the festivities. Speakers include the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service, Sonoma County Water Agency, the City of Petaluma, the Friends of the Petaluma River and Southern Sonoma RCD.  Josh Collins, Ph.D and Senior Environmental Scientist from the San Francisco Estuary Institute will be speaking on the Petaluma Marsh, its importance on a watershed scale, and the role of broad scale planning on building resilience to climate change. Ane Carla Rovetta from the Regenerative Design Institute will be sharing cultural songs and stories around a fire circle after the speaker session.

5. Amanda Morrison, NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service - NOAA focus in Petaluma and the multi-species recovery plan
6. Kent Gylfe, Sonoma County Water Agency - Update on SCWA work in the watershed
7. City of Petaluma - TBA
8. Jason Sweeney, Southern Sonoma RCD - Watershed management and the Petaluma Watershed Enhancement Plan update

Local conservation groups including Daily Acts, PRBO Conservation Science, Sonoma Land Trust, the RCD, Friends of the Petaluma River, the City of Petaluma Water Resources and Conservation, NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service, Calif. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife, and the United Anglers of Casa Grande HS will host tables to share information about their exciting conservation endeavors.
