April 24: Oak Woodland Restoration Workparty

Leader: Cathy Koehler
Rating: Moderate, < 3 m, < 1k ft elevation gain

Join us at the McLaughlin Reserve, where we have restored beautiful native wildflower meadows. We are now working to repair oak woodlands impacted by fire, which was fueled by an excessively flammable understory. We will remove downed wood under the oak canopy and consolidate it into safely situated piles, or burn it if it is a permitted burn-day (we’ll supply marshmallows and sausages, you bring a roasting fork!). Option: short visit to nearby wildflower meadows. Provided: tools, gloves, instruction.

*Optional Overnight Campout at private McLaughlin Reserve primitive campground.

This package includes the April 23 Grateful Dead Peak & April 24 Oak Woodland Restoration Workparty events with overnight camping and a group potluck at the McLaughlin Reserve. Please sign up for each event individually, then email Cathy Koehler (koehler@ucdavis.edu) to make reservations and get details on reserve access, campsites, nominal overnight use fee, cooking facilities, etc. Overnight option is open to participants of one or both events.
