Hello Birders,This Saturday, September 11, 2021 we will be exploring the riparian corridor of Putah Creek Riparian Preserve. There have been many fall migration eastern and western warblers and other interesting migrants and vagrants that have been reported in the past few weeks.

OVERVIEW

The preserve follows the flow of Putah Creek and straddles the border of Solano and Yolo Counties. This area consists of riparian habitat bordering agricultural fields to the north and east. Birds likely to be seen are Lesser Goldfinch, Western Tanager, Black-Headed Grosbeak, Western Bluebird, Green Heron, Red-Tailed Hawk, Swainson's Hawk, Red-Shouldered Hawk, Yellow Warbler, Wilson's Warbler, Mallard, Tree Swallow, Belted Kingfisher and a plethora of other passerines. Wood Duck, Orange-Crowned Warbler, Black-Throated Gray Warbler and MacGillivray's Warbler are possible. Swainson's Hawk may be seen as they gear up for migration. Hopefully American Kestrel since it was a poor breeding year. Migrants and winter residents are making their way to these prime habitat areas. Green-Tailed Towhee, Yellow-Breasted Chat, Cape May Warbler, Painted Bunting, Nashville and Black-And-White Warbler are rarities that have been spotted in the past.

WEATHER

The temperature will reach the high-80s - Low-90s, so please stay hydrated. We will be walking in mostly shaded habitat along a creek, so it should be a comfortable day weather-wise. Please wear comfortable, yet sturdy, hiking shoes. Mosquitoes are out and ticks are common, so please bring bug spray.

COVID REGULATIONS

The Delta Variant of the COVID-19 virus is ramping up and becoming troublesome around the country and in California. I have relaxed the Covid guidelines but please be wary that even with the vaccine the virus can be potent. Masks will be optional but I will be wearing a mask throughout the walk. Please find the following guidelines below.
Masks will be optional but highly recommended.
We will do our best to maintain social distancing to the best of our abilities
If you are sick, or feel unwell, please do not attend. I promise that there will be more walks in the future and the birds will be there
