Napa Solano Audubon Society Bird Walk at Lake Solano

Sat, Jun 26th 2021, 7:30am - 11:30am
Lake Solano County Park, 8685 Pleasants Valley Rd, Winters, CA 95694

Lake Solano is paved and narrow trails paralleling the course of Putah Creek as it makes its way to Lake Berryessa. Prime riparian habitat is found here as well as adjacent foothill grasslands, leading to an interesting mix of species. Birds likely to be seen are Spotted Towhee, Wilson's Warbler, Acorn Woodpecker, Nuttall's Woodpecker, Great Blue Heron, Wood Duck, Song Sparrow, Ash-Throated Flycatcher, Phainopepla, Bullock's Oriole, Western Tanager and Phainopepla. Common Merganser, Orange-Crowned Warbler, Black-Headed Grosbeak, Pacific-Slope-Flycatcher are not uncommon at this time and Osprey may fly over the water. Western Screech-Owl can sometimes be seen in oak knolls if luck is on our side.

WEATHER (PLEASE READ)
The temperature will be HOT with temps reaching upward to 110F, so please bring water and a snack. We will take it easy and the trail is mostly shaded. The creek should keep us cooler than the surrounding air. Binoculars are a must. We will be walking in mostly shaded habitat. Please wear comfortable, yet sturdy, hiking shoes. Mosquitoes are out so please bring bug spray.

**Due to some requests from fellow birders, to avoid the heat of the day, we will start this walk at 0730 and end a bit earlier. This is completely optional as early mornings are hard for most people. If you wish to meet later at 0800 please let me know and I will be in contact with you. As a general note, I will always travel west into the campground along the creek shore first if you cannot find the group.

COVID REGULATIONS

As of Wednesday, June 15 COVID regulations have been laxed in California and most of the businesses and groups can operate at full capacity. Masks from now on will be optional but I still advise everyone to still be cautious as we are unaware of variants that could pop-up. If you are sick, or feel unwell, please do not attend. I promise that there will be more walks in the future and the birds will be there!
