The Long Road to Recovery at the Cove

Sat, Jul 17th 2021, 9:00pm - 12:00pm
The Cove at Mt. Veeder

With all that has been happening, do you still feel like you need to find a safe harbor? The Cove, a historic group camp with roots stretching back more than 100 years and with many happy camper memories, might be just the right place to explore!

The Napa Open Space District purchased this unique property just weeks after the 2017 fires and has been actively working to rehabilitate it to welcome visitors again in the future. Wildfires haven’t dampened our enthusiasm for this special place, in fact we’re blazing ahead, and we’re excited to bring you along to show you our progress.

Join NOSD staffer Rick Fessenden to get a glimpse into the long process of recovery from wildfire in a forested area that was particularly hard hit during the 2017 fires. You'll get a firsthand look at this recovery and get to see all the new growth from the past few years. Rick will also give a tour of the restoration and improvement work that has already begun on the campsite areas and the beginnings of a new trail to the peak of Mt Veeder!

Please note: This 3rd Saturday Hike event will be a bit different than the norm and will mostly be a tour of the property. We will be hiking around the grounds and up the beginning of the new trail (~1/4mi one-way), but it will not be as long a trail hike as we usually have. Enjoy this unique sneak peak at The Cove with us for 2-3 hours!
