Bird Walk at Lake Hennessey

Sat, May 8th 2021, 8:00am
Lake Hennessey, Conn Creek side of the lake, 1798 Conn Valley Rd, St. Helena, CA

This Saturday, May 8, Andrew will be leading the Weekly Bird Walk along the shores of Lake Hennessey!

Lake Hennessey is a reservoir formed by the Conn Creek Dam and is a great location for waterbirds, migrants and summer breeders. Many summer residents are here and performing their courtships. Song Sparrow, Tree and Violet-Green Swallows, Bald Eagle, Clark and Western Grebe, American Kestrel, Western Tanager, Black-Headed Grosbeak, and Osprey are likely to be seen. There are still some waterfowl occupying the lake. Grebes will be on the lake and most likely performing their courtship dances.

WEATHER: The temperature will reach the low 90s, so please stay hydrated and bring sunblock and light clothing for sun prevention. We will be walking in mostly shaded habitat along the lake but there is a long section of open trail that could get hot. Please wear comfortable, yet sturdy, hiking shoes. Mosquitoes and ticks are out so please bring bug spray.

WHERE:  Lake Hennessey, Conn Creek side of the lake, 1798 Conn Valley Rd, St. Helena, CA.
Please meet at the gravel Conn Dam parking lot at the intersection of Levee Rd. and Brooks Rd on the SW side of the lake, no later than 8:10am.
