Napa Solano Audobon Society Weekly Walk: Rockville Hills Regional Park

Sat, Apr 17th 2021, 8:00am
Rockville Hills Regional Park, 2149 Rockville Road Rd., Fairfield, CA 94534

This Saturday, April 17, we will take a hike through Rockville Hills Regional Park. The park is open and it should be a great time to view spring migrants and possibly some wildflowers.

Rockville Hills is a beautiful hike through the ridges and hills of the Solano foothills. Traveling through the oak woodlands and rocky chaparral, we will locate a plethora of birds here for the spring and summer. Western Bluebird, Red-Tailed Hawk, Rufous-Crowned Sparrow, Blue-Gray Gnatcatcher, Warbling Vireo, White-Throated Swift, Wild Turkey, Black-Headed Grosbeak, and Western Tanager are some of the birds we are likely to find. Northern Pygmy-Owl, Purple Finch, Pileated Woodpecker and Wood Duck are uncommon possibilities within the park. We will watch for the late spring blooms of wildflowers on the hills. We will always find a surprise in the lake within the park interior.

WEATHER

The temperature will reach the mid 80s, so please bring water and layers for the morning. We will be walking in mostly shaded habitat, but it is important to be hydrated and wear sunscreen. Please wear comfortable, yet sturdy, hiking shoes. Mosquitoes and ticks are out in force so please bring bug spray. Please wear appropriate clothing for the day. The first part of the walk is a steady incline but we will be stopping frequently.
