Native Plant Nursery Event

Sat, Nov 21st 2020, 9:30am - 12:00pm
Forestry & Fire Protection 5800 Chiles Road, Davis, California, 95618

Please join us for a nice morning with people who are interested in native plants and caring for our watershed.

At the Putah Creek Nursery, we grow a variety of native plants for use in habitat enhancement project sites along Putah Creek and throughout the surrounding region.

All plants in the nursery are propagated from seeds and cuttings taken from plants growing in the Putah-Cache watershed and are grown and cared for by community volunteers - just like you! Volunteers participate in a variety of tasks including: propagating, seeding, transplanting, weeding, trimming, organizing, watering, and otherwise caring for native plants.

Nursery events are held at CALFIRE's Lewis Moran Reforestation Facility at 5800 Chiles Road in Davis.  Registration link and map with directions are below.

Why are we growing the plants?

During the rainy season, December - April, plants from the nursery will be planted along Putah Creek and regional projects in hedgerows or mass plantings to create wildlife habitat, attract pollinators beneficial to agriculture, and improve water quality by preventing erosion and illegal vehicle trespass.

Nursery Rules:

  • Volunteers age 14 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  • Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes.
  • No running, no dogs.
  • Drinking water is provided in the potting shed, do not drink water from any tap or spigot.
  • If you are under 18, you MUST bring this completed liability form signed by a parent or legal guardian.

The Putah Creek Nursery is a joint effort between Putah Creek Council, the Lower Putah Creek Coordinating Committee, and CAL FIRE, with funding provided by the Solano County Water Agency and the Yocha Dehe Community Fund.
