Mackenzie Miner from UC Davis Fangue Labatory will present on the return of Chinook salmon to Putah Creek and the many ways we can study the process of reestablishment in an urban ecosystem. In the past, native fish populations in Putah Creek have declined as a result of dam construction, drought and water reductions; however, since the implementation of a new water use plan, under the Creek's Accord, we have observed a resurgence of native fishes. With help from our collaborators, UC Davis Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology Department has been monitoring salmon activity in the creek since 2016. Since then increasing numbers of returning adult salmon and out-migrating juveniles have been observed. Join us to learn more about ongoing research efforts and salmon ecology in Putah Creek.
