Lake Hennessey Stroll with Napa Solano Audubon Society

This Saturday we will be strolling around the shores of Lake Hennessey.

OVERVIEW  

Hennessey is a reservoir formed by the Conn Creek Dam and is a great location for waterbirds and migrants. Song Sparrow, Merlin, Bald Eagle, Clark and Western Grebe, Red-Breasted Sapsucker, American Kestrel and Osprey are likely to be seen. Waterfowl occupy the lake in large rafts.  Lewis's Woodpecker have been seen in the area in the past is not unheard of. The lake is a wonderful spot for wintering raptors. Grebes will be on the lake and most likely performing their courtship dances.

 

WEATHER  

The temperature will reach the high-50s so please bring light layers and stay hydrated.  THERE IS A 10% CHANCE OF RAIN IN THE FORECAST. HEAVY RAIN WILL CANCEL. Bring warm clothing.  Water and binoculars are a must.  Mosquitoes are still around, so bring bug spray needed.  Please wear comfortable, yet sturdy hiking boots or shoes.  Please dress accordingly to the weather and location.

Carpools are participant-organized; NSAS leaders will not necessarily be present. Carpools should depart the meeting location at the suggested time, so be early if you want to share a ride! There is no guarantee that there will be another individual arriving at the car pool location. Below is a list of the three suggested car pool locations and suggested times of departure.

Napa Carpool 
Depart: 7:30
Sweeny’s Sports Store, 1537 Imola Ave West, Napa
Meet on the EAST SIDE of Sweeney's Sport Store in the Riverpark Shopping Center.

Directions from Sweeny's: Turn right out of parking lot heading east towards Silverado Trail.  Turn left on Silverado Trail  at the first stoplight  Follow Silverado Trail.  Turn right onto Howell Mountain Rd.   Follow Howell Mtn Rd. until it turns in to Conn Valley Rd  at the fork.  Follow Conn Valley Rd. until it dead ends.  Park on the side of the road and do not block any driveways.

Solano Education Building, 5100 Business Center Drive, Fairfield
Soon after you get onto Business Center Drive, turn right into the parking lot for the Education Building.

 

OTHER INFORMATION

NOTE: Car-poolers will share driving expenses, so bring some small bills if you plan to carpool. We also encourage a small donation for the trip leader to help offset his costs.
