3rd Saturday Hike – Oak Woodlands at Spanish Valley

Sat, Nov 16th 2019, 9:30am - 2:00pm
Spanish Valley is located off Snell Valley Road, near Berryessa Estates

Rarely visited, the Spanish Valley Open Space Preserve will feature an oak woodland themed-hike.

Come discover the communities that live in the oak woodlands and the oaks themselves. Spanish Valley is located off Snell Valley Road, near Berryessa Estates.

We’ll meet at 9:30am at Howell Mountain Market and Deli in Angwin (15 Angwin Plaza) to convoy to the Spanish Valley Preserve, Nov. 16th.

Given the remote location and the extra driving time (total time for drive and hike about 4 hours), we strongly recommend you pack a lunch for this hike. (Hint: stores in Angwin will likely not be open)

The moderately strenuous (easy fire road hiking for the most part, but with a couple of particularly steep hills) 3.5 mile hike will be an overview of Spanish Valley which will cover oaks, geology, grasses, and wildlife (birds and scat!)

*We recommend hiking boots and hiking sticks if you’ve got ’em.
