Spring Loop Trail Nature Hike at Bobcat Ranch

Sat, Mar 23rd 2019, 9:00am - 2:00pm
201 Railroad Ave Winters, 95694

Bobcat Ranch is a 6,800-acre working ranch that uses regenerative grazing management to restore and manage natural diversity in grassland and oak woodlands. It is Audubon California’s largest landholding and is enrolled to become the first certified Ranch in California under Audubon's Conservation Ranching Program.

Marc Hoshovsky, a local naturalist, will lead participants on a short 1 ½ mile loop hike (elevation gain 350’) from the ranch HQ to Buckhorn Spring. The trip will be partially along a ranch road and partially on stock trails through open blue-oak woodland. Marc will explain some of the history of the ranch, highlight some interesting geological features, and help participants identify wildflowers and birds.

This hike is appropriate for all ages, and families and groups are welcome. Please prepare for the weather and variable conditions by bringing water and snacks, wearing sturdy shoes, and dressing in layers. The tour may be rescheduled in the event of heavy rain. A camera and binoculars are recommended. A restroom is available at the beginning of the hike, after which participants must rely on the "facilitrees."

Advance registration ($10) is required. We have special permission to lead the group on Bobcat Ranch, which has limited public access. Participants will need to sign an Audubon liability waiver prior to entering the Ranch.  Participants will rendezvous at the Rotary Park gazebo in Winters and carpool/caravan to the property. For questions, call Karin Young at Putah Creek Council, 530-795-3006.
