Spring Wildflower Tour at the Jepson Prairie Preserve

Fri, Mar 8th 2019, 8:30am - 12:30pm
4845 Cook Ln, Dixon, CA 95620

Solano Land Trust staff and Jepson Prairie Docents are preparing for the spring wildflower tour season at Jepson Prairie Preserve.

Join the Solano Land Trust staff on March 8th to learn about this unique rangeland ecosystem, look for early flowers, and help strike the balance between visitor access and preservation.

They need keen botanical eyes (or enthusiastic, trainable ones) to help them look for sensitive fragrant fritillary (Fritillaria liliacea) and other species along the self-guided tour route and in the visitor service area. They know that public access is crucial in preserving special species and places. By scouting for especially sensitive plants before the tour season. No vernal pool plant ID experience necessary!

They also need to put up some signage at specific intervals, so they are asking for help measuring off the distance and securing the signs.

They will meet at 8:30 in the Jepson Prairie Preserve parking area (4845 Cook Ln, Dixon, CA 95620). You will be done by 12:30. Please wear rubber boots or other water proof foot gear, and dress in layers. It can be quite windy and cold at Jepson. Terrain is not steep but the soil will be squishy and possibly inundated. Feel free to bring binoculars as you will probably have bird watching opportunities. This time of year, the usual bird population is joined by waterfowl using Olcott Lake.

Space is not limited; the more the merrier! RSVP for this Citizen Science event to Jasmine by replying to this message or email Jasmine Westbrook at jasmine@solanolandtrust.org.  If you RSVP and can't come- please give her a text (707-718-3234) so they don't wait for you.
