CaliforniaTiger Salamander Workshop

Tue, May 12th 2009, all day
Pete Trenham, Ph.D. will present a workshop covering the biology and conservation of the California tiger salamander (CTS). Dr. Trenham is a leading expert on CTS, and has published a number of frequently cited papers on its ecology and life history. This is the fifth year for this popular workshop. The workshop will consist of a daytime classroom session on May 12 and a field session (with a choice of the field session on either the evening of May 11 or 12).

Dr. Trenham's workshop is a great opportunity to gain an understanding of the biology of California tiger salamanders, and how this information can be applied to management and conservation. The information conveyed will be useful in large-scale and local conservation planning efforts. Topics discussed will include: the geographic distribution of California tiger salamanders and hybrid populations; upland and aquatic habitats and their management; movements, population and community ecology; survey method; methods for assessing potential project impacts and approaches for avoidance and minimization. Participants will receive field training in species identification, sampling techniques, and the habitat requirements of the California tiger salamander.

Class size is limited- this means you will have a great instructor-to-participant ratio in the classroom and field session, but it also means that the workshop generally fills up fast. Please register as soon as possible!

$300 - Includes light breakfast, lunch, snacks. For more information, please see:
