2009 Urban Drought Workshops: Managing the Crisis

A combination of dry weather, low reservoir levels and Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta water export cutbacks to protect endangered fish has left California facing one of the worst droughts in history. The state's two largest water projects are predicting record-low deliveries – 15% for State Water Project contractors and only 50% for the Central Valley Project's municipal customers – and communities throughout the state are feeling the impacts of water supply cutbacks.

Two one-day workshops, Managing the Crisis: Essential Drought Tools for Urban Water Managers, will provide urban water agencies with tips and tools for managing drought-related impacts. The workshops are sponsored by the Water Education Foundation and the Association of California Water Agencies.

Workshop Topics Include:

- The Latest on California's Water Supply
- Legal Issues Related to Drought Declarations and Proposition 218
- Water Rates and Equity Issues
- And a "Lessons Learned" Agency Roundtable Discussion
