Burning Vineyard Waste for Biochar

If growers use a particular method when burning piles of dead vineyard material, they can also limit the amount of air pollution from the fire while making the charcoal credited with providing a host of beneficial effects on soil including water conservation, enhancing soil nutrients and providing stable organic material for healthy plants.

Using burn piles to create biochar wouldn’t create enough of the material for regular amendments or the recommended amount to help a developing vineyard, but it would be a more effective way to get rid of vineyard waste and create something good for the ground.
