LandSmartâ„¢ for Rangelands Workshop - water quality, soil health & erosion control

Fri, Nov 14th 2014, 9:00am - 12:30pm
Pepperwood Preserve Dwight Center 2130 Pepperwood Preserve Road, Santa Rosa

Livestock including cattle and sheep are a valued part of Sonoma County's rural environment. The Sonoma Resource Conservation District (RCD) is hosting a free workshop for grazing and rangeland landowners to discuss how management of land and water resources keeps livestock healthy, land productive and valuable, and natural resources thriving.

This workshop will feature professionals from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, the University of California Cooperative Extension, and the RCD. Presentations will focus on common issues associated with grazing operations, and practical solutions that can benefit natural resources and the rancher's bottom line. Topics will include:

  • Beneficial Management Practices for water quality
  • Pasture and soil health
  • Road-related erosion and treatment options

One way that livestock owners can plan for and demonstrate stewardship of natural resources is by developing ranch plans that address non-point source pollution and other land management concerns commonly associated with grazing. The Sonoma RCD will also introduce our new LandSmart™ for Rangelands program with opportunities for one-on-one assistance to landowners and potential funding for the development of ranch plans.
