Registration for this event can be found here.

Come out to the Sonoma Garden Park, to get learn all about compost. We will discuss the primary elements to make compost and the different ways of accomplishing this goal without the disgusting smells associated with doing it “wrong.”  We will make compost piles, distribute compost to the garden and explore the creatures that we find with boxes that contain magnifiers. Learn about different techniques and additives to natural composting including Bokashi & Bio-Char made on site! Make piles, move compost out to the garden, explore compost critters with bug boxes and much more!

After the workshop, you’ll have an opportunity to load up on some finished compost to get started on your home garden, courtesy of Zero Waste Sonoma!

Sonoma Garden Park was protected by Ag + Open Space in November of 2011 for recreation and preservation of its natural resources, and learning classroom environment for agriculture field trips for nearby elementary schools through Sonoma Ecology Center’s “Growing Discovery” program . The 6-acre property, hidden in eastern Sonoma, is an incredible public park and working garden site in Sonoma Valley, containing a wide array of habitats alongside sustainably designed systems for both agriculture use and landscaping.

There is no charge for this outing, which is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the work of  Ag + Open Space with a quarter-cent sales tax.
