Mission & Goals:

Mission:

The Napa County Resource Conservation District is a non-regulatory agency whose mission is to promote responsible watershed management through voluntary community stewardship and technical assistance.

Goals:

Education: Promote watershed-based land stewardship of natural resources

Assessment: Evaluate watershed conditions and functions

Planning: Provide resource conservation planning services

Implementation: Implement resource conservation practices and projects

Meetings:

Second Thursday of every month at 8:00 a.m. at the RCD Office.

Publications:

Napa County Conservation News (a quarterly conservation newsletter), Caring for Creeks in Napa County, and various other natural resource related handouts.

Current Projects:

  • Watershed and pollution education for youth;
  • Coordination of Napa Sustainable Winegrowing Group (NSWG);
  • Natural resource education "Speaker Program" for civic organizations and others;
  • Operation of a sustainable vineyard demonstration site;
  • Steamgaging to record high and low stream flow in several watersheds;
  • Watershed condition indicator project to identify appropriate monitoring parameters to indicate the "health" of Napa County watersheds;
  • Fish habitat assessment and development of plans to remove existing fish migration barriers;
  • Native habitat enhancement at Napa River Ecological Reserve;
  • Rural road improvement projects in the Sulphur and Carneros Creek watersheds to improve water quality;

Volunteer Needs:

Creek to Bay Clean-up Day (September 20, 2008), water quality sampling, occasional field work, data entry
