On Tuesday, September 19th, the City Council will began weighing what may become Napa’s first water-rate hike in two years. More lasting, however, may be a proposal by the city Water Division to levy a service charge on all customers, in addition to charges based on the level of use.

If approved by the council this fall and not blocked by residents, the rate hikes – which would be Napa’s first in two years – would move the monthly water bill from $28 today to $35 next year and $47 in 2022 for a family using 5,000 gallons a month.

After mailing notices to customers, Napa will hold a state-required public hearing on the possible rate hike at the council’s Nov. 7 meeting. Residents and other water buyers may mail in their comments or complaints beforehand, or submit them directly at the hearing.
