Wildlife agencies get grants to preserve and protect

The Board of Supervisors approved the Commission’s recommendations on June 24. The funds will support projects ranging from educational programs to wildlife enforcement equipment to land stewardship.


The WCC is an all-volunteer body that advises the Board of Supervisors on policy matters related to the preservation and enhancement of wildlife and their habitats. Funding for the annual grants program is provided in part by California Department of Fish and Wildlife fines and settlements, as wells as local fines and settlements that are designated for this specific purpose.

The recipients of 2014 grants include:

  • Wildlife Rescue Center of Napa County, $2,766.35
  • Napa County Regional Parks and Open Space District, $6,250
  • Institute for Conservation, Advocacy, Research, and Education (ICARE), $4,518
  • Napa-Solano Audubon Society, $1,939.84
  • California Department of Fish and Wildlife, $1,600
  • Land Trust of Napa County, $10,000
  • Napa County Resource Conservation District, $10,450

The eight-member WCC includes four at-large/citizen members, one sportsman or angler representative, one youth representative, one wildlife conservation representative and a member of the Napa County Planning Commission.
