Preventing Drought on Sonoma County's Rangelands

Join the Sonoma Resource Conservation District on Sunday, September 28that 10 am at the scenic 553-acre Scott Ranch in east Petaluma. Maintained by the Scott Family the ranch supports a variety of agricultural uses. Discussion with local land managers Richard King and Scott Ranch's Scott Gerber will focus on understanding grazing management as a tool for soil health, grassland enhancement and how new approaches can benefit the land during drought. King and Gerber will describe and demonstrate the land management techniques they are utilizing to improve the land. See the effects of some new ideas used by the Scott Ranch on land health, productivity and livestock performance. This outing will be informative for ranchers and the public alike, ranchers are invited to see the results and share their own experiences from the drought. Come see firsthand the complex work that ranchers are doing on Sonoma County rangelands.

On land protected through a conservation easement from the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District in 2002, the site acts as a greenbelt agricultural property on the western face of Sonoma Mountain protecting natural resources and stunning viewsheds.
