A Walk in the Woods: Forest Stewardship & Sustainable Practices

Sun, Aug 24th 2014, 10:00am - 12:30pm
Rancho Mark West (private property: address given out to registrants)

Join the Sonoma Resource Conservation District on Sunday, August 24th at 10 am at Rancho Mark West as we venture on a moderate hike amongst stunning forest ecosystems rich with agricultural history. Established in 1993, a conservation easement with the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District protected 120 acres of Douglas fir and redwood forests as well as a Christmas tree farm. Through their sustainable forest land management coupled with a viable agricultural operation, the Doerksen Family illustrates a clear dedication to land stewardship and the environment.

The group will also discuss the benefits of best management practices on riparian habitat and steelhead trout and Coho salmon restoration in the Russian River watershed. We will see firsthand the value of small property owners working for a common goal in the Upper Mark West watershed.
