Selby Creek Watershed Partners

Mission Statement

To form a stewardship group that involves at least 75% of people living and working directly beside the creek and anyone else living and working in the watershed interested in the development and implementation of a community approved stewardship plan.

Education and Outreach

We are partnering with Acorn Soupe to provide a revegetation project experience to Valley Students. Students will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of revegetation activities over the course of the project. It is goal for both SCWP and Acorn Soupe to establish relationships that could lead to Selby Creek as a long term project site. In addition to our partnership with Acorn Soupe we will also be sponsoring at least five educational programs dealing with aspects of the project that will be open to the public as well as group at large.

Organization Assistance or Group Development

We have worked closely with the RCD from the inception of SCWP and they have given us tremendous support in both helping to organize the group and providing technical scientific support to make our project more robust and scientifically sound.

Restoration, Enhancement and Implementation

Selby Creek Watershed Partners is currently involved in a restoration and revegeatation project. The Development and implementation of this plan has been the main focus of the group since 2003.

Watershed Monitoring

We have developed a comprehensive monitoring plan as part of our project.

Organization Facts, History, or Background

Our first step was to commision a survey of Selby Creek which included prescriptions for bank stabilization and revegatation. This survey became the backbone of a work plan that we then sought funding to implement. In this process our work plan was augmented by several additional surveys that looked at everything, from the botanical and biological, to hydrology and geomorphology. In 2007 Selby Creek Watershed Partners was recipient of significant grant funding and is now in year one of a five year restoration project along eight distinct reaches of Selby Creek.
